Testers also loved that the colors of the zippers matched the coats’ colors. The design allows you to unzip the bottom of the coat for ventilation, and this makes it easier to sit down in longer versions of the coat. Testers said the H2Off’s two-way zipper was among their favorites. The hood is adjustable with a Velcro strap (though testers didn’t need to use this feature), and it’s deep enough for most hairstyles, except high buns, and hair thicknesses. The fully taped seams help to block water, and the top half of the lining is mesh, which makes the coat breathable. The H2Off’s fabric was thicker than that of the Columbia and J.Jill coats we tested, and it felt smoother than the fabric of any of our other women’s picks. This was typical for most of the coats we tested, but it seemed to roll faster from the H2Off than from the J.Jill and Eddie Bauer coats. And I'm back in New Jersey, where it rains every single week, so I'll get plenty more use out of this coat over the next few seasons. In the rain, water rolled right off the H2Off jacket. Since we wore our coats for three days straight, I'd say they were well worth the cost. The coats were more than enough coverage for a heavy storm. The coats did such a good job of keeping my friend and me dry, we barely even used the $15 umbrellas we'd bought earlier. Once I was inside, the London Fog coat also dried very fast, unlike my now-discarded windbreaker, which remained soaked for hours after I'd been inside. The water-resistant shell looked basically waterproof to me, a novice at the raincoat game, as the water simply glided off the coat. Even Urban Outfitters had nothing when it came to outerwear. My friend and I could not find a raincoat anywhere in the city, all we could find were $100 sweatshirts in boutique stores. Once we realized the rain wasn’t going to let up, a panic search for umbrellas and raincoats ensued. The pouring rain decimated my windbreaker. I’d grabbed a windbreaker right before leaving for my flight, hoping it would be enough protection from the rain. I feel like "monsoon" is an accurate description, but that may be on the dramatic side. Is it like Florida, where it rains for a few minutes and then stops? Or is it like New Jersey, where it rains heavily for 10 minutes, then on and off drizzles for the rest of the day? I probably should have looked it up, because it was neither: It rained non-stop for virtually the four days I was there. I’ve never been to Tennessee before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw rain predicted for my entire trip. ![]() No, I didn’t get arrested for getting too rowdy on Broadway – I didn’t bring a good raincoat.
